HOME
The Chambre d'Hôtes (guest house) of Pouzadouire is situated in the Regional Nature Park of the Ardèche Mountains at a height of about 700 m, located in the High Cévennes on the little river La Volane.
Its location, on the side of a hill in the valley of the Volane, always lets you have an unspoiled view of the entire domain of 25 hectares, with its marvellous nature and a dazzling sunsets in the evening.
Els Van den Kerckhove-Verhoeven will welcome you in this charming setting, where you will feel at home in no time.
After a hearty breakfast under a mulberry tree (for more information, click here) (weather permitting) the day offers you following possibilities:
A quiet walk on the property itself, or a longer excursion along one of the many hiking routes we have prepared (make sure to visit the “Maison de la Randonnée” in Antraigues), open air swimming in the Volane or, if you prefer, in a heated swimming pool, an introductory lesson in archery under supervision of an experienced archer (for more information, click here), kayaking or mountain-biking in the vicinity,
a game of bowls (pétanque) ... Or simply read a book on the terrace, while listening to the nature that surrounds you... Everything is possible.  Top

THE ROOMS

Pouzadouire offers 4 double rooms, a suite for 4 to 6 persons (each room with its own sanitary facilities) and one lodge for 4 to 6 persons:
Gîte de Rosa (lodge for 2 to 6 persons, with private sanitary facilities) This is the original dwelling of the farmer's wife who passed away around 1970.
Suite de Jehan (suite for 4 to 6 persons, with private sanitary facilities) This suite was named after a story from the book “Souvenirs & légendes de l’Ardèche ancienne”, which is about the life out of Jehan Dumarché, who was abducted as a child and only returned to her family home 14 years later.
Chambre de Picoberlo (room for 2 persons, with private sanitary facilities) This room is named after Picoberlo, who had made a pact with a she-devil, but finally proved to be smarter.
Chambre de Jean de l’Ours (room for 2 persons, with private sanitary facilities) This room is named after a girl in a legend, who was abducted from her family home by a bear. The bear takes good care of her and they have a child named Jean de l’Ours.
Chambre de Jacou (room for 2 persons, with private sanitary facilities) This room is named after the legend of Jacou du Petassaôre, who went off in search of the devil to make a pact.
Chambre de Gargantua (room for 2 persons, with private sanitary facilities) Gargantua too, like Jean de l’ours, is a legend of a giant that often appears in the tales of the inhabitants of the Vivarais mountains. Top

CULTURAL AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES
The moment that you enter the domain of the Chambres d’hôtes de Pouzadouire, you will be surrounded by magnificent chestnut trees, which colour the surroundings a warm red in the Fall and provide a scintillating green shade in the Summer. A shadowy path leads you to the foot of the hill, where the Volane threads its way through the valley year in and year out, sometimes rather peacefully and then again quite wild.
Some of the routes that have been mapped out on the domain give you the possibility of following a part of the Volane, perhaps even connecting to longer official hiking paths of the Parc Naturel Régional des Monts d’Ardèche. You can of course also explore these vast woods with a mountain bike or your car, where you will find a large number of vantage points with a beautiful view
If instead you prefer to make the acquaintance of the local population, then you can enjoy the atmosphere of one of the many local markets in the characteristic villages that surround Pouzadouire, including the horse market in Aubenas, the widely known garlic market in Saint-Jean-le Centenier, the flower market in Thueyts, the lamb market it in Laviolle... As you can see there are endless possibilities.
And culture enthusiasts, too, will find a rich patrimony in the surroundings of Pouzadouire: Vals-les-Bains with its ancient city centre, the Pavillon Saint-Jean, the casino in Belle Époque style, and of course the springs for which the town is best known, the medieval villages Balazuc and Joyeuse, and the picturesque artist's village Antraigues-sur-Volane, majestically located at the top of basalt cliffs.
In December and January, and only 7 km away, you can put on your skis and explore the mountains in a different way. If skiing is a bit too fast for you then you can also participate in snowshoe hikes that are organised by experienced guides from the region.
It is of course always possible to let yourself be inspired by the experiences and stories of your hosts, or to simply follow your own instincts and map out your own route. Top
