THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Vinsobres is a hillside Cotes-du-Rhone wine village with its own cafe, post office, restaurant and a boulengerie/small grocery creating morning-fresh croissants/baguettes, and flutes! It has twisting narrow streets, traditional laundry 'lavoirs' and two lovely churches. Every Monday morning all year round, a tiny local Farmers Market is held in vinsobres, behind the Marie. There you can purchase olive oil, honey, cheese, veggies all without leaving the village. There is also tennis in the village. Nyons has a cinema, many cafes and restaurants, an outdoor theater, tennis, supermarkets, banking & services... Plus one of Provence's best Market Days. Wine tasting is everywhere! Bike around the valley vineyards. Hike or horseback ride, following high altitude paths of the ww2 French Resistance. There are music, opera & dance spectaculars in Vaison-la-Romaine, Orange, Arles and (a day trip) Nimes. Avignon's Festival, is home to a huge number of theatrical productions (1 hour away).  Top
CULTURAL AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES
Provence AttractionsMarketsIn Summer the markets can get very busy, so get there early before 10 as they close at 12. Tuesday- Vaison la Romaine - a wonderful selection of food, crafts, clothing and plants. Good in winter too!Thursday- Nyons - our favorite market as it's so close! Lots of everything and lovely cafes to have lunch at. Wander down to the old bridge through old town. Friday- Carpentras - plenty of variety. Saturday- St Cecile le Vigne - A small but lovely provencal market - well worth a visit!Uzes - Lots of food stalls with local specialities. Worth combining with a trip to the Pont du Gard. Sunday- Isle-sur-la-Sorgue - The largest antique market outside Paris plus all the usual food and craft stalls. Well worth a trip if you have the time. Carpentras - Flea market - you'll never know what you will find here! Chateau Grignon is a beautiful Chateau with a perched village at the base. You can see it for miles as you pass through Valreas. Lots of lovely boutiques and artisan shops for that special gift will be found here. The Chateau is well worth a tour if you have time, as well as the church. Lunch at one of the many cafes and restaurants at the base of the castle is a lovely way to pass away the afternoon. Avignon - Pont St Benezet - from the song 'Sur le pont d'Avignon'. The bridge only goes half way across the Rhone - the rest having been swept away by floods a couple of hundred years ago. 3. 50 euro entry which includes a mobile cassette player telling you the history of the bridge - in English. Road Train - Good one for the children. 2 euro for a short trip from the Palais des Papes up to the gardens on the hill or 6 euro for a 40 minute tour of the city. Palais des Papes - An interesting visit. Self guided tour around the famous palace telling you all about the rooms/history etc. Entry fee 9. 50 euro. Good gift shop at the end of the tour. Vaison la Romaine - Only 20 minutes away in Vaison - you will find ancient roman ruins that are well preserved, as well as a Roman ampitheatre, which is currently being restored. The ancient Castle of the Counts of Toulouse is well worth the climb, as well as the ancient old village on the hill over the ancient bridge. Lavender, Olives & Wine All three are in abundence in this area of Provence! Nyons is the olive capital of France and a visit to la Nyonsaise is a must to taste the olives, oils and other wonderful produce. La Vinsobraise (at the beginning of the road to Vinsobres) is the local co-operative housing all the Vinsobres wines for you to taste and buy! Vinsobres wines have one of the best reputations for red wine in France. Nyons also has it's own lavender distillery with shop next door to purchase all those lovely lavender products.  Top

CLIMATE & WEATHER
The weather and climate in Vinsobres and the surrounding areas, is very special. The Mistral winds that are very common in the rest of Provence is very rare here. In fact, Nyons climate is so special that there is an asthma/bronchial clinic in the town. In winter it snows on the odd occasion, and the temperature reaches a comfortable 28 - 30 in the summer. Spring and Autumn and simply beautiful!  Top
