HOME
Welcome to Saint-Hippolyte du Fort (near Nîmes, Uzès and Montpellier) in les asphodeles, xviiith century very comfortable guest house, built in the ancient quarter of the 'teinturiers' when craftsmen dyed the silk using vegetable dyes made from barks and flowers. The Museum of Silk documents this great history of southern France. Saint-Hippolyte du Fort has nestled itself at the foot of the limestone cliffs of the Cevennes.
Ideally situated between the white horses of the Camargue and the vineyards of Pic Saint-Loup, between the garrigues of Salaves and the mountains of Aigual and Lozère, Saint-Hippolyte is within easy reach to Pont du Gard, Uzes, the Bambouseraie in Anduze, Montpellier, Nîmes, Saintes Maries de la Mer, the Grottes des Demoiselles, the Abbey of Saint Guilhem le Désert. A number of prehistoric and historic sites (dolmen, ruines of medieval castles, roman chapels connected to the prestigious Abbey of Aniane... Testifies to the enduring desire of local populations to live there.
les asphodeles, three stories demeure, with four bedrooms, has been completly remodeled to provide all the comforts of modern pumbling and heating without sacrificing the unique architecture.
The interior decor is enhanced by Corine's original works of art: cevenol oshibana, collages of herbs and flowers of the garrigues, icones on glass and on wood painted with tempura, homemade vegetable paper which celebrate and maintain the creative tradition that has flourished, since the dawn of time, at the headwaters of the Vidourle River.
Corine's workshops take participants on sunrise and sunset fieldtrips to the mountains and the garrigue to gather native herbs and plants. Wild lettuce is one of the highlights of the winterseason. Spring is the season for violets, pansies, hawthorn, arnica, spirea, thyme, rosemary... Corine brings to life the folklore and practical knowledge of the 'grands-mères' who understood the virtues of plants. Top
