Charming Bed and Breakfast with pool in the Loire
La Métairie des Bois : La Métairie is typical of Touraine architecture dating from the 16th century and its original character has been carefully conserved over the years. We are near the village of Vou, surrounded by 200 hectares of private woods and small lakes with good fishing (we have row boats, please bring your own rods). The medieval town of Loches is 10 kms from here, Tours is 30 kms away and we are within a reasonable drive of some of the loveliest of the Loire châteaux.
The peace and quiet here at La Métairie is wonderfully soothing and welcome after a day out. The garden is filled with roses and centuries old trees and sometimes on a walk, you can catch a glimpse of roe deer or a stag, or herons and wild ducks near the ponds. Our family has lived in this house for more than three hundred years, so we know the Touraine area intimately and will be happy to advise on anything you may need to know.  Top

THE ROOMS
The four double bedrooms are prettily decorated and furnished with family furniture and each have a bathroom with either bath or shower. All the bedrooms have a sofa and television, a coffee maker and a small fridge. There is also a laundry room with washing machine and ironing facilities if needed.
Each of the bedrooms have their own private terrace looking onto the roses and flower beds filled with delphiniums and dahlias in the garden. The terraces have chairs and a table where you can sip an aperitif in the evenings and have breakfast or dinner if you wish. There is a comfortable salon with a big stone fireplace and a piano and books and a dining area for breakfast or dinner. A second salon has a pool table and a bar. Dinner is available on request. Top

CULTURAL AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES
The swimming pool is large, terraced and equipped with sunbeds and cushions. Table tennis and bicycles are available and we have and three row boats on the ponds. There are also some wonderful walks through the woods straight from the house on paths we have made and maintained over the years.
The Area
Verneuil, 14 kms from here has a good golf course and there are riding stables between 8 and 10 kms away. Loches, (10 kms) has a medieval city, surrounded by fortified walls on the hill above the town. There is a weekly market in the main part of town, restaurants and shops.
Apart from beautiful countryside, fairytale châteaux and good food, one of the treasures of the Loire is wine. The Touraine borders on Anjou and produces some of the Loire’s best red wine. You can visit some of the vineyards at Chinon and Bourgueil for reds, or Vouvray and Montlouis for whites or stop and taste at the wine caves in Chinon and Tours.
Of the châteaux, Amboise (22 kms) has a superb setting above the town and river. The remarkable Tour des Minimes there is a ramp that spirals up sixty nine feet from the river and was used as the main entrance for horses and carts. Nearby is Le Clos-Lucé, an attractive manor house where Leonardo da Vinci lived and died and where you can see working models made from some of his mechanical drawings.
Chenonceau (20 kms) is a must and never fails to amaze. The château is still privately owned and has beautiful formal gardens laid out by Catherine de Medici. Langeais (28 kms), in the centre of the town, has an exceptionally rich collection of medieval furniture and works of art. Amongst other châteaux is Villandry(30 kms), a fine classical 16th century building whose great pride is its Renaissance garden (flowers and vegetables), full of symbolic design and faithfully reconstructed from old drawings and records of the time.
