Grange Poumes in St Geours de Maremne, is the ideal place to rest for the night during your drive through the South of France or for a longer stay if you wish to benefit from the Landes of Gascony unique combination of pine forest and Ocean air.
This 18th century barn was partly transformed in a « living space » in the 1950’s. It was entirely remodelled by the present owners in 2003.
Surrounded by a vast private garden, the house is only 500 meters from the heart of the village and enjoys a sense of perfect tranquillity.
The interior décor bears witness to the owner’s various stays around the world. Nicole and Gabriel cheves will welcome you in French, English, Spanish or even German.  Top

THE ROOMS
The Europa room, bright and spacious is situated on the ground floor of the house.
You may enjoy many relaxing moments on one of the house’s terraces or under the shade of a tree in the garden.
The shower room and the toilet are private next to the room.
The Asia room : The French doors in the Asia room open on a charming little terrace where you may take your breakfast or rest after a day on the beach. The shower room and the toilet connect directly to the room.
The America room : This room may only be rented in addition to one of the other rooms as it is on the second floor and is not “on suite”

CULTURAL AND SPORTS ACTIVITIES
The Village
Saint Geours de Maremne is a flourishing village whose population exceeded 2000 people in 200.
. It is ideally situated at 15 km from both Dax, the leading thermal station and the beach.
The Barons of St Martin were lords of the fief in the 13th and 14th century. The fortified church dates back to that era. It has conserved the original tower and apse. The nef was rebuilt in the 18th century
Inside you will find a beautiful painting of Saint Georges fighting the dragon.
Seeing the church tower’s loopholes and it’s feudal style you can easily imagine how it might have served as a watchtower in earlier centuries.
Although small, the village offers every commodity you may require during your stay : a post office, two restaurants, two bakeries, a grocery a butcher as well as a tobacco shop and other type of businesses.
In case of medical emergencies, you will find a pharmacy, a doctor, two dentists.
A visit to the “Pavillon du Foie Gras” at the Labeyrie establishments will show you everything you need to know about foie gras, from it’s history and origins to the different ways to make it.
The forest
The forests of Gascony are the largest in Eastern Europe. They start where the Médoc vinery finish and run along the Atlantic Ocean to the feet of the Pyrenees.
The Beaches
The “Landes” are proud of their huge white sand beaches. Thanks to their ideal position in the Bay of Biscayne, the waves are impressive and attract many surfers. Every year towards the end of August, three different international championships take place here.

The Lakes
The wild life harbored in the large lakes which you can find in the “Landes” is quite impressive.
The many nautical clubs offer a variety of sports and activities.
Other activities
You can visit museums (Dax, Bayonne, Biarritz), 'or big aquariums, (Capbreton, Biarritz, San Sébastian).
The caves of the basque country are very interesting (Bétharram, Isturitz).
The visits of Pau and his castle or Lourdes or even to do chopping in Dax, Biarritz or San Sebastian will enable you to live your holidays fully and to diversify your pleasures. Top
