La Bastide est l'oeuvre de Monsieur Berges, sculpteur renommé et directeur de l'Ecole de Arts et Métiers d'Aix en Provence, au milieu du 20ème siècle. Il fit l'acquisition de ce qui n'était alors qu'un colombier dans la campagne aixoise, et attiré par l'exceptionnelle luminosité de la région, si chère aux artistes, il décida de l'agrandir, pour transformer le lieu en atelier et salle d'exposition de son oeuvre. Plus tard, lorsque l'heure de la retraite eût sonné, il y installa ce qui fut sa dernière résidence. La Bastide fut entièrement restaurée en 1999, dans le strict respect des proportions et matériaux d'origine : fer forgé, dallage de pierre naturelle, enduits de chaux pigmentés aux ocres de Roussillon en Provence, etc...
