Do you need a break? Feel like a change of scenery? Come and relax at the Domaine du Cholet, in your own self-catering gîte or for Bed and breakfast in the Château itself. Whichever you choose, you will find a warm welcome and all your creature comforts (with WiFi in most of our rooms). Or, if you're sporty, there is plenty of hiking in spectacular scenery, as well as wonderful roads for cyclists... With an easy run down at the end of the day. Situated at the foot of the Vercors plateau in the north of the Drôme, an hour and a half south of Lyons, the Château du Cholet was built in the 19th century, originally as a shooting lodge. Surrounded by 10 hectares of greenery, bordered by a river, and at easy distance from many sites of natural beauty and historical interest, it is an excellent base from which to explore the Vercors, by car, mountain bike or on foot. You’re in the South of France, but there’s water everywhere here: a fish pond, a river to swim or paddle in, or simply to relax by. Above us, the shady forest of Lente or the wild plateau of the Vercors, made famous by the French Resistance.  Top

THE ROOMS
Enjoy a night or two, or even several days, in one of our comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms, most of which are equipped with WiFi. Have breakfast on the balcony if the weather’s fine, lounge in the grounds or down by the river in the sun or the shade. Slow down, enjoy life, and we’ll do our utmost to ensure you have a relaxing stay and find out more about life in France. Les Lys: a spacious room at the top of the north tower, with a large four-poster bed and en-suite bathroom, overlooking the grounds of the château. If you like a romantic atmosphere, this is the room for you. Les Chardons: a harmony of heathery colours for this suite, with one double bedroom, one single bedroom/sitting room, and spacious en-suite bathroom. The old pine furniture adds to the cosy atmosphere. Your rooms overlook the garden and one of the fish ponds. Les Coquelicots: a double-bedded room, overlooking the ponds and the woods En-suite shower and toilet. Les Tulipes: shades of beige for a simple, more modern, twin-bedded room overlooking the woods, where youl ’ll see the squirrels running up and down the acacias. Ensuite shower room. Top

THE TABLE
We'll give you the opportunity to try out some of the local dishes: delicious 'ravioles' prepared in variety of ways, local trout, guinea fowl with rosemary, cheese and fruit from the nearby farms. In summer, our own tasty vegetables, picked in the morning and served in the evening. Dinner is a real opportuntity to get to know people, to find out more about the area, and to share the pleasure of good food and good company. Top

Dominique has Breton roots, Sue was born and bred in Scotland, and her heart's still in the Highlands. The Domaine du Cholet was our challenge, and has little by little become what we wanted it to be : a place where people can relax, enjoy, and 'chill out'. Top

COMFORT & SERVICES
Large living room for our guests, and Wifi in the rooms. We have maps and ideas for sightseeing and walks, and will be happy to advise you. If you are looking for a swimming pool, this is not the place for you: we have chosen not to instal one, out of respect for the environment and for the tranquility of our hosts. There is, however, a river 200 yards away where you can swim, and which is a wonderful place to recharge your batteries. Top

At the foot of the Vercors, the Domaine is an ideal base from which to explore some fantastic scenery, be it on foot, by bike, by motorbike, or simply behind the wheel.
